w. brent swain, an architect in oxford, mississippi, specializes in building design and energy analysis, including the energy efficient design of homes, buildings and retrofits, passive solar design, and acoustical design.

brent designs energy-efficient homes, residential sunrooms, remodels/additions, solar shading, and daylighting. he uses building information modeling (bim), building performance optimization, utility and lifecycle costing, optimization of interior thermal mass to glass ratio, and envelope design. his designs utilize energy-efficient construction materials, including structural insulated panels (sip), insulated concrete form (icf), log and timber, and repurposed steel containers such as intermodal steel building units (isbus).

brent's research interests include smart growth and off-the-grid housing solutions, and emergency housing/renewal design for areas devastated by storms and affordable housing for areas around the world. brent is a licensed architect in mississippi (ncarb), with a masters of architecture from texas a&m university. he is a registered building information modeling (bim) consultant for graphisoft virtual building solutions and received two design awards from the acoustical society of america/american institute of physics.
