jansen baier is a young reporter, writer, and filmmaker with a love for telling stories and out-of-the-box thinking. beginning with covering local politics in the district, jansen was soon writing for mediafile on the news about the news; examining news desserts, objectivity in election coverage, and the ever-changing journalistic economy. after a shortage of journalism classes offered his junior year, jansen found himself enrolled in a science reporting class and hoped for the best. he soon found a deep interest in science journalism, both in its constantly learning attitude and explanatory storytelling nature. this lead him to mongabay, where he wrote about animal conservation, the environmental impacts of covid-19, and the complicated world of human and wildlife interactions. jansen is now a senior at the george washington university pursuing a major in journalism and mass communication and a minor in socio-cultural anthropology. to view some of jansen’s other written and video work, check out his website here.
